Touch Football Tournament

Each Tuesday Footprints run a Community Touch Football Program at New Farm Park. Many of the participants are homeless, have physical, neurological or psychiatric disabilities, and/or are from local community agencies/organisations. There are now 20-40 participants who attend the program on a weekly basis.

Paul Sears, Footprints in Brisbane Inc. Community Care and Disability Services Coordinator said: “We believe that every person has the right to an encouraging and safe social network and a positive experience felt through community engagement”.

The overwhelming success of the Community Touch Football Program has developed into an annual Touch Football Tournament where roughly 14 – 20 teams from schools, businesses and health service providers. To date, we have teams participating from (not conclusive)

  • Footprints in Brisbane
  • Orange Sky Laundry
  • Teen Challenge Brisbane & Toowoomba
  • Brisbane Youth Services
  • 139 Club
  • The Prince Charles Hospital
  • Nundah Community Health
  • St Joseph’s Nudgee College
  • St Laurence’s College
  • St James College

We have been fortunate enough to gain support from St Joseph’s Nudgee College, who donate their football fields and volunteers to help accommodate over 200 people who will attend the event. There is a sausage sizzle, sponsored by local member Vicki Howard, held on the day and the excitement around the event is electric. Everyone is there to have a great time, and to win the coveted trophy!

This year the tournament will step up a notch and will have professional referees and other support from the Queensland Touch Association.
